چکیده

Abstract This study is perhaps the first attempt to use satellite data (1990–2018) analyze spatiotemporal changes in glacial lakes over Kashmir Himalayas supplemented by field studies. Landsat images were used delineate spatial extent of at four-time points, i.e., 1990, 2000, 2010 and 2018. The total count as well their showed a discernible increase. number increased from 253 1990 324 2018, with growth rate 21.4%. area has 18.84 ± 0.1 km 2 22.13 0.12 2018 14.7%. newly formed lakes, including supraglacial greater than that disappeared period. All are situated elevations 2700 m asl 4500 asl. More 78% lake expansion region largely due existing lakes. Through change analysis, our findings reveal certain show rapid needing immediate monitoring observation. analysis meteorological variables reveals minimum maximum temperatures Jhelum basin have shown an increasing trend. T max increase 1.25 °C, whereas min 0.7 °C 1980 2020. On other hand, precipitation decreasing trend, which can be attributed one major causes glacier recession Upper basin. Consequently, this could play significant role devising comprehensive risk assessment plan for potential Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOFs) developing mechanism continuous management region.

Spatial Database Development of Glaciers and Glacial Lakes in the Identification of Potentially Dangerous Glacial Lakes of Nepal Using Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems

Spatial and attribute database of the glaciers and glacial lakes of whole Nepal had developed by ICIMOD in collaboration with UNEP/RRC-AP in 2001 using remote sensing and geographic information systems techniques. There are altogether 3,252 glaciers covering an area of 5,322 square kilometer with approximately 481 km of ice reserves. The Mahakali River basin comprises 87 glaciers with an area o...

Tsunami Vulnerability Mapping Using Remote Sensing and GIS Techniques: A Case Study of Kollam District, Kerala, India

Tsunamis are caused by the displacement of a large volume of water, generally in an ocean or a sea. Earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and other underwater explosions, landslides, glacier calvings, meteorite impacts and other disturbances above or below water have the potential to generate a tsunami. The coastal areas of Kollam district, the present study area was seriously affected by the catastr...

Spatiotemporal Pattern Analysis of Rapid Urban Expansion Using GIS and Remote Sensing

Rapidly growing urban areas tend to reveal distinctive spatial and temporal variations of land use/land cover in a locally urbanized environment. In this article, the author analyzes urban growth phenomena at a local scale by employing Geographic Information Systems, remotely sensed image data from 1984, 1994, and 2004, and landscape shape index. Since spatial patterns of land use/land cover ch...

Using geographic information system (GIS) and remote sensing (RS) in zoning nitrate concentration in the groundwater of Birjand, Iran

Previous studies have shown that the presence of nitrate in drinking water can cause several diseases especially in the infants, such as cancer and blue baby. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has since adopted the 50 mg/l standard as the maximum contaminant level (MCL) for nitrate for regulated public water systems. This study aimed to evaluate the concentration of nitrate in the drink...
